Advance Queensland Investment & Innovation Summit 2016

A number of Startup Mackay members were invited to attend the inaugural Innovation and Investment Summit held in Brisbane on the 27-29th April. The two a half-day event brought together some of the world’s best visionaries in technology and innovation, with the summit opening on the first evening with an interactive culinary event featuring some of the world’s best chefs.

Speakers included Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak, TechStars Co-Founder Brad Feld, Domino’s Pizza CEO Don Meij, Shark Tank’s Steve Baxter, with World-class culinary innovator Hiroyuki Sakai from Iron Chef  at the launch dinner.

Several Startups from Mackay were able to showcase, network and gain further exposure at the event, such as Strictly Service and Massage Me Now.

For onlookers, there were plenty of things to do in between speakers over the 2-day program, including interacting with the 4 different types of robots on display. These included Domino’s Pizza delivering DRU, several Softbank Pepper‘s, a couple of NAO‘s, and the QUT Agbot.

Due to the success of the event, Anastasia Palaszczuk announced that the government had secured international event company Myriad into a three-year deal to stage an annual innovation and startup festival in Brisbane.
