Over the weekend, the Australian Government hosted their biggest annual open data competition GovHack. The event occurred simultaneously in 41 locations across Australia and New Zealand with several Startup Mackay members taking part in the event.
Within 46 hours teams created a project page, proof of concept and a video that told the story of how data can be reused to find new ways to solve the challenges facing Australian the community and government. The essence of the GovHack was to achieve something remarkable over a short period of time with over 2000 participants competing for prize money for the best work undertaken with government data across a number of major and minor categories.
